Want to renovate your ugly bathroom but have no idea where to begin? All DIY building projects begin with having your tool box filled the right instruments to get the job up and rolling. Here’s the catch – it can take years of trial and error to nail down what tools work best for the type of work your undertaking. Fortunately, my friends and I created a master list of what you need for a solid start in construction (and in deconstruction, too).
This list was created thanks to a delightful crossing of paths. I was on a podcast with a woman, Jenn, who just so happened to be embarking on a renovation project. Following the show, she reached out to me about what tools to purchase as a relative newbie to the world of construction.
What was an exciting challenge! I pondered, what are the essential tools that every person needs to do basic DIY building?
I went straight to my builder buddies, both of whom had worked in construction for decades. I invited them to join me for a beer and we engaged in a lively conversation about what tools rock, which brands suck, with all sorts of hilarity and laughter thrown in between.
We came up with a solid list that I shared back with Jenn. She went back through it and together, we created a fabulous collection of tools for any new builder.
